"Clear Skies" dies

A bill (S. 131) was defeated in Committee by the the Senate Environment and Public Works.  This was yet another blow to Bush's "Clear Skies" plan.

This bill was crafted by corporate pullutors and general industry hacks who care nothing for the environment.  It took all seven Democrats, Independent Jim Jeffords (VT), and Republican Lincoln Chaffee (RI) to get the 9-9 vote needed to kill the bill.

This was a small but potent victory for the environment and for Democrats.
